The Certified Occupational Therapist Assistant, COTA:
Under the direction and supervision of a licensed Occupational Therapist (OT), a Certified Occupational Therapist Assistant (COTA) provides occupational therapy services to children ages 0 - 22 in a variety of early intervention and educational settings. The school-based COTA's focus is on engagement in meaningful and purposeful daily living school/home/community activities or "occupations". The COTA's goal is to improve students' participation and functioning to achieve their maximum potential in the educational environment. They help students participate in learning, social, prevocational/vocational, and recreational activities. The school-based certified occupational therapist assistant works under the direction of a supervising occupational therapist (OT) to help assess students' fine motor and developmental skills for the purpose of determining eligibility and developing recommendations if appropriate. The OT may utilize a COTA for all areas of intervention including consultation, direct treatment, training others, and the use of adaptive equipment.

Job skills/requirements:

Qualified Certified Occupational Therapist Assistant, COTA, must have:
. Current or pending Missouri COTA license
